NEW TO JD’s BookShop

wp6082651e.png

This book explores the idea that the mistreatment of prisoners  is not due  to  the rogue actions of a few “bad apples.” It is a predictable response of placing people in a position of authority over others that they see as undeserving of humane treatment. This attitude of treating  people  barbarically  is  unleashed  in  those working  in  an authoritarian prison environment.

Dehumanization Is Not An Option

Derek Tice’s case was featured in Justice:Denied in November 2000.  Tice and three other enlisted Navy men were convicted for the July 1997 rape and murder of Michelle Moore-Bosko in Norfolk, Virginia. Since JD’s article the four men, known as the Norfolk Four, have obtained pro bono counsel, their case has garnered national publicity, a documentary about their case has been broadcast world-wide, and many respected legal professionals have declared their opinion the men are innocent. JD published another article about the case in its Fall 2005 issue.

The Norfolk Four have filed pardon petitions with Virginia Governor Tim Kaine. On November 17, 2008, The Justice Institute (JD’s parent organization) submitted a letter to Gov. Kaine requesting that he pardon Derek Tice and his three co-defendants. Read the letter.

World-renowned false confession expert Professor Richard Leo has co-authored a new book, The Wrong Guys: Murder, False Confessions, and the Norfolk Four.  Buy the book NOW from JD’s Bookshop with your credit card. ($25 prepaid, hard cover)
